Joyce Pomeroy Schwartz is a curator, lecturer and public art consultant with a unique concentration in public art policy, modern and contemporary art for architecture and the landscape in the broader context of cultural, urban and environmental revitalization.  She was Director of Commissions at Pace Gallery in New York from 1972-1982, implementing public sculpture projects with Pace artists, Robert Irwin, David Von Schlegell, Tony Smith, Lucas Samaras, and  Louise Nevelson, whom she considers her mentor. In 1982 Joyce founded “Works of Art for Public Spaces, Ltd.”

Her goal is to integrate permanent and temporary public art into the broader concepts of cultural, urban and environmental revitalization. A major book was published in 2023 by ORO Editions. “The Private EYE in Public Art” for artists, professionals, and students, telling all about the perils and pleasures of contemporary public art practices and projects. 

She is a founding member of ArtTable and the Association of Professional Art Consultants (APAA) and recently established the Harold & Joyce Pomeroy Schwartz Archives of Public Art “ at Fales Special Collections NYU/Bobst Library of artists' monographs , photographs, and papers available for research. It includes the archives of Creative Time and  Public Art Fund.
