CPAL Class:

Preparing for an Appraisal 

This class addresses what artists and executors can do to prepare for appraisal services

Subjects to be discussed:

  • Why appraisals are needed

  • Insurance issues associated with art appraisals

  • The role of appraisals in estate planning, including Wills, Trusts, and Foundations. 

  • Estate tax (after death or spouse’s death)

  • Choosing, refining, or establishing a database

About the Instructor:

Sarah Kirk Hanley is an independent curator, critic, and expert appraiser based in the greater New York City area, specializing in prints, multiples, and illustrated/artists’ books. She has been a contributor to Art in Print and Art21 Magazine and served in leadership positions at the Manhattan Graphics Center, Christie’s, and the Milwaukee Art Museum. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, ArtTable, the College Art Association, and the Association of Print Scholars.
